Acidosis is a condition that occurs when the alkalinity of the blood falls to a pH level that’s below 7. When the alkalinity falls, the blood can no longer transport carbon dioxide as effectively. And when this happens, excess acid builds up in the tissues of the body. This condition is known as hypo-alkalinity, or acidosis.
Symptoms
Acidosis is a fairly common condition, and there are many common symptoms that accompany it. Some of these symptoms are: burning and pain in the pharynx; indigestion; hunger; nausea; vomiting; headache; nervous disorders; and sleepiness.
Other Conditions
While the symptoms of acidosis are enough to seek treatment, acidosis can also lead to other conditions and disorders. And this process happens very quickly. Acidosis can quickly lead to things such as Bright’s Disease, rheumatism, aging, arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, skin conditions, and degenerative diseases. Acidosis affects the functions of the glands and organs of the body, so there are many conditions that can stem from it.
Causes
There are many causes of acidosis. The main one though lies in an unhealthy diet, and one in which too many acids have been consumed. Another large cause of acidosis is when the alkalinity of the blood has been reduced due to another condition such as diarrhea, dysentery, or cholera.
Treatment
A simple change in diet is usually enough to bring the alkalinity of the blood back up to normal levels. Meat is high in acidity, but breads and cereals are the highest so these foods are best avoided. Fruits and root vegetables are especially good for treating acidosis and can bring the pH level in the blood back up to 7.
